New: Improve Students Type Accuracy and Productivity with Type Station

Computers have replaced a lot of the work we used to do with pen and paper. Some have loved the shift, and are able to type way faster with a computer than write out words with a pen. Others didn’t take so easily to the challenge and peck at the computer, typing each letter with their pointer finger. No matter which way you lean, it’s easy to see that typing is an important part of every student's learning experience. The faster and more efficient they can type, the less fatigue and more productivity they will experience.

That’s why we’re thrilled to announce our new typing platform, Type Station.

“In our ever-evolving tech world, learning to properly type is a skill that we believe all students will greatly benefit from,” Bree Yocum, Curriculum Developer at Skill Struck, said. “Touch typing, as opposed to the common ‘hunt and peck’ method we see in our young classrooms, improves students’ typing speed, accuracy, productivity, and limits fatigue.”

This new typing platform will not only help students become better at typing, but it will also help them prepare for classes such as computer science and, ultimately, it will prepare them for their future careers. Click here to get an overview of the course.

Implementing Type Station into your classroom

Type Station is now available for purchase for the 2022-2023 school year. Kids as young as Kindergarten can use the platform. Middle schools and high schools can also implement this typing course for a digital literacy elective. Using Skill Struck’s recommended cadence, it takes 8-12 weeks for students to complete the typing course. This 8-12 week timeframe is dependent upon the teacher’s preferred scope and sequence.

The course features three levels of typing lessons: beginner, intermediate, and advanced. The beginner-level lessons help students get familiar with where the keys are on their keyboard, and teaches them how to utilize all their fingers - not just one. The intermediate-level lessons help students get familiar with typing out words and sentences on the keyboard. The advanced-level lessons introduce students to unfamiliar keys that can be found in coding. For example:

. It also offers paragraph practice prompts.

To help the students track their progress, accuracy, areas of improvement, and words per minute (WPM), at the end of every challenge we show them how they did.

“The typing platform was created with new-to-keyboarding students in mind. In our 8-12 week typing course, students improve their typing skills with the support of each lesson, assessment, and paragraph practice opportunity,” Yocum said.
