On July 1, 2019, Skill Struck released Voyage—version two of their Voyage is an affordable way for kids to learn how to code through fun, engaging coding challenges. Kids are guided through a coding education while competing and helping others on the platform.

“About two months ago we released a beta product we were calling Ninja to the market to see how kids and parents liked it,” Parker Gentry, CEO of Skill Struck, said. “Through the beta testing, we saw the effectiveness of the platform. Kids love it! And Parents love that their kids are spending their computer time to learn something that will benefit them in the future.”

During the beta testing of Ninja, 100+ users interacted with the platform and gave Skill Struck recommendations for how to make the product more user friendly.

“Beta testing is a very important part of the release of any product,” Justin Wride, CFO of Skill Struck said. “We want our product to be doing what it’s supposed to: make coding fun for kids.”

Voyage is for kids between the ages of 8 - 18 that would like to start learning how to build websites and games.

Parents can subscribe to Voyage on a month-to-month basis. The price is $24 a month. If you sign up before Friday, July 5, 2019, you can get a 6-month free subscription to Voyage. Current Live Tutoring users have access to this product at no additional cost.

Why Is It Called Voyage?

During the beta testing, Skill Struck called the product Ninja. With this version two release, they have decided to call it Voyage.

“There are a couple reasons we decided to call this version two release Voyage,” Talon Hatch, Corporate Partnership Manager at Skill Struck, said. “One of them being that the word voyage indicates that the student, or kid, is embarking on a journey or a quest. That’s exactly what this product is intended for; for kids to start learning skills that will benefit for the rest of their lives.”

Skill Struck is also partnering with after-school programs and other similar organizations and wanted the name of this new release to have a more expressive name as to what the software entails.

“We’ve seen a lot of success in partnering with school groups, after-school programs, private schools and the State of Utah in the recent months,” Gentry said. “All kids should be learning how to code, and some don’t have the opportunity to do so at home. By giving school programs access to Voyage, all kids will have an equal opportunity to learn how to code.”

A Look At Voyage

The purpose of Voyage is to make coding curriculum available to students and have a way for them to practice what they are learning with an editor. Other features included in Voyage are auto-complete tags, syntax coloring, and error highlighting.

Additionally, there is a user feed to promote interaction between students. Students can see updates about their friends or others on the site such as checkpoints completed, challenges submitted, points earned, and questions asked.

“By encouraging students to compete in challenges and interact with others while learning to code, we are hoping to improve the learning process and make it fun,” Wride said.
